About

Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to $3 million for information on Yasin Kilwe, a regional leader of al-Shabaab, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). Also known as Yasin Usman Kilwe and Yasin Khalid Osman, Kilwe is al-Shabaab’s emir for Puntland in northern Somalia and has been accused of planning attacks targeting Puntland officials.

Prior to joining al-Shabaab, Kilwe was the leader of a local militia in the Galgala Hills of northern Somalia. The militia reportedly seized territory in the Hills and launched a deadly attack against a local military base.

In 2012, Kilwe’s militia formally joined al-Shabaab, which pledged loyalty to al-Qa’ida (AQ) that same month. This merger granted al-Shabaab, and by extension AQ, access to a powerful fighting force.
