On January 5, 1993, Mir Aimal Kansi murdered two people and permanently injured three others. He attacked without warning or provocation, shooting his AK-47 assault rifle into cars waiting at a stoplight in front of Central Intelligence Agency headquarters.
Kansi fled the United States immediately after the attack and was a fugitive until captured in Pakistan. On November 10, 1997, Kansi was convicted by a jury in Fairfax, Virginia, for the murder of the two CIA employees. Kansi was executed on November 14, 2002.
