Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to $5 million for information on Faruq al-Suri, also known as Samir Hijazi or Abu Hammam al-Shami. Al-Suri is the leader of the terrorist organization Hurras al-Din (HAD) and a veteran member of al-Qa’ida (AQ).
Al-Suri was a senior paramilitary trainer with AQ senior leader Sayf al-Adl in Afghanistan in the 1990s, and he also trained AQ fighters in Iraq from 2003 to 2005. Al-Suri was previously detained in Lebanon from 2009 to 2013 and later became the military commander of the al-Nusrah Front (ANF). He left ANF in 2016.
On September 10, 2019, the U.S. Department of State designated al-Suri as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist pursuant to Executive Order 13224, as amended. As a result of this designation, among other consequences, all property and interests in property of al-Suri that are subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with al-Suri.
